Directions:“So I get on this train ---had to ride something like 30 miles to McCullers where the church gathering was to be. And when I got off, a fellow named Milton Banks, a big bustling fellow, came toward the train, calling out, Is Brother Paul Green among the passengers? … In no time, he had me by the arm and was ushering me along to his buggy and them we started out. I was to spend the night at his house. “ Well Mr. Banks talked Mr. Green into an estate worth of $5,000… of life insurance…and attempted to match Mr. Green up with his daughter. He had Mr. Green so upset that he didn’t show up at the church, he retreated into the woods and missed the service. “Then I heard, from up at the church, a dreadful voice calling across the land like the bellowing of a bull, Brother Paul Green, where are you?” Well, Mr. Banks took Mr. Green to a local doctor to clear him for the life insurance. Thinking quickly, Mr. Green led the doctor to believe he was sickly and would be a poor candidate for life insurance. On the way to catch the train home “Mr. Banks was glum and gray. Just before we got to the station, he turned to me and said, You know, Brother Paul, I sell coffins, too.” |
