1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 - 16 oz. jar maraschino cherries (save juice)
6 oz. chocolate chips
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk

In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and baking soda, set aside. In mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla, and then dry ingredients. Mix well. Shape into 1" balls and press down the center of the ball with thumb. Place a cherry in the hole. In a saucepan, melt chocolate with milk. Stir in 4 tsp. of cherry juice. Spoon 2 tsp. frosting over each cherry. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes. Cool.

I entered a cookie contest one year and mom told me to enter these cookies. I have never been especially fond of these, but she was convinced that everyone loved these the best. I won the contest! Although I only won a one-year subscription to a local magazine, I was still so excited! - Christy
