2-1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1/4 c. butter, softened
1 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 jars (8 oz. each) maraschino cherries with stems, well drained
2 c. (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
2 tbsp. shortening

Directions:
Directions:
In a small bowl, combine sugar, butter, milk and extract. Knead until smooth and pliable. Shape into 1 inch balls and flatten each into a 2 inch circle.

Wrap one around each cherry and lightly roll it in hands. Place, stems up, on a wax paper lined baking sheet. Cover loosely and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

In a microwave, melt chocolate and shortening; stir until smooth. Holding onto the stems, dip cherries into the chocolate and allow excess to drip off. Place on wax paper until set. Store in covered container. Refrigerate 1 to 2 weeks before serving.
