1 stick of butter
1 cup sugar

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1tsp. Vanilla
1cup milk

Mix all ingredients well, bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Finish wit powdered sugar or light butter vanilla icing. Great with fresh berries.

My grandmother referred to this as an 'economical cake' because she started making it during the Depression. It is so convenient because most have all ingredients on hand at any given time. It is a lovely white cake, like a pound cake, but less rich and more fail safe, where less is more. Very light.
