1 lb chopped dates
2 cups boiling water
2 tsp soda
2 T shortening
2 cups sugar
4 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, water and soda and let cool. Then add remaining ingredients. Fill 5 #2 tin cans half full and bake at 350 degrees till done.
