5. replace olive oil use bacon grease when making mayonnaise/dressing
6. adding oatmeal to soup thicken broth. Or can add left-over cooked oatmeal
7. a teaspoon of butter/margarine/oil to pasta water, pasta won't stick together
8. toast rice kernels in oil olive before cooking for a slightly different taste
9. to pick a good watermelon, there should be a yellow spot and hard 'hard hollow' sound. shows it ripened in garden. if 2 watermelons the same size, the heavier one will be juicier.
10. pineapple: purchase if leaves pull out easily and it smells sweet. Store upside down to extend life.
11. peppers stored upside-down last longer
12. replace broth or add to soup, the water in which potatoes or vegetables were cooked
