1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 t. red cake coloring
1 egg
4 T. cocoa
2 T. hot coffee
2 c. flour
1 t. soda
1 t. vanilla
1 t. salt
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar gradually and cream thoroughly. Blend in well beaten egg. Mix cocoa, coloring and hot coffee together to form a soft paste. Blend in cream mixture. Sift flour once before measuring and again when measuring. Add flour, salt, soda to cream mixture alternately with the sour milk or butter milk. Blend in the vanilla. Pour in well greased & flour deep baking pan. Bake at 350º for 55 to 60 minutes.
