"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

1 cup milk
1 cup whipping cream
1/3 cup butter
1/2 tsp salt
5 eggs
2/3 cup sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
1 teas cinnamon with 1 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup raisins, plumped and drained (optional)
10 slices white bread

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup cream
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix eggs, sugar and vanilla. Bring milk, cream, butter and salt to a boil. Whisk milk mixture into egg mixture a little at a time so it does not cook the eggs. Cut the crusts off of the bread and cut into 1 inch cubes. Arrange bread in a sprayed 9x13 pan putting raisins between layers if using them. Cover with egg and milk mixture. Place a lg roasting pan in the oven and fill 1/3 full of hot water. (I bought a cheap aluminum turkey roaster pan and use that.) Put bread pudding in pan of water and bake at 350º for 35-45 min or until golden brown. Sprinkle with cinn/sugar mixture. Sauce: Melt butter and whisk in remaining ingredients until thickened and smooth. Drizzle sauce over pudding and top with whipped cream.
