Ingredients: 1 1/4 cup flour 1 tsp ground ginger 3/4 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1/4 tsp allspice 1/4 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter, room temp. 1/4 cup sugar 1 egg at room temp. 1/2 cup molasses 1/2 cup warm water 3/4 cup brown sugar 1 & 1/2 cup hot water 5 Tbsp butter, room temp.

Directions:Preheat oven to 350º and grease a 9 inch oval oven proof baking dish
Place flour, salt and spices in a bowl and whisk together until well combined. In a separate bowl, beat the butter and white sugar together until light and fluffy, and then add the beaten egg and mix until just blended.
Combine the molasses and warm water together.
Mix the flour mixture into the butter mixture alternately with the molasses mixture.
Transfer to the prepared baking dish and sprinkle evenly with the brown sugar.
Combine the 1 & 1/2 cup water and 5 Tbsp butter in mix until butter is melted. Carefully pour over top of the batter. There will be lots of liquid on top.
Bake until crackled looking, 30-35 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes. Serve with whip cream or vanilla ice cream. |

Notes: You can add 1/3 cup chopped crystallized ginger for added punch. (I soak the sugar off the ginger in hot water and then chop.
