3 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. all purpose flour
1/4 c. light brown sugar, packed or granulated sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c. butter or margarine
2 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Rub in butter by hand until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk. Mix with spoon just until moistened.

For loaf: Turn dough into a greased 9x5 loaf pan. Bake @ 325 for 1 hour or until pick comes out clean.

For scones: Turn dough out onto a well-floured surface. Dust with more flour. Gently pat or roll until 1/4" thick. Slice into squares. Cook squares on a dry, hot griddle until well browned on both sides. Makes 20-30 scones.
