Per 1 lb. ground beef:
1 large onion, chopped
½ green pepper, chopped
3 garlic cloves, chopped or crushed in a mortar & pestle
1 14.5 oz. can whole tomatoes
2 cans tomato sauce
1 can tomato paste
1 can mushrooms
1 tablespoon leaf oregano
1 teaspoon basil
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions:
Directions:
Saute chopped onion and green pepper in olive oil until soft. Add tomatoes, paste & sauce; mash garlic cloves with oregano and basil in mortar & pestle, using some of the salt with it; add with rest of seasonings to sauce. Cook 1-1/2 hours on low.
Add cooked & drained ground beef to the sauce and cook ½ hour longer.
To this recipe I add 1 large can of crushed tomatoes.

This is the basic recipe from Rosaura Ferrer. Tastes best after it’s been refrigerated overnight. Recipe also works well in a crock pot! Just cook and drain the ground beef first and then combine all ingredients in the crock pot and let it cook several hours on low.
