Notes: Leo always brings the wine for the dinners. Rodd and the boys bring red wine or beer.
Luli, being famous for her delicious "huevos rellenos" always bring the "saladitos" for before dinner; but for Noche Buena ask her not to. I like to prepare what I remember years ago at home in Cuba. The typical "entremes”; a combination of Serrano ham, Gouda cheese, mortadella, tamales and croquetas de jamon with the Cuban crackers. Also tostones con mojo. . The reason for having so many things to eat before dinner was because the "cena de Noche Buena" was always late. After dinner, we went to Midnight Mass or "Misa de Gallo".
Our last Christmas in Cuba, 1959, I was invited to the Lagomasino's. I remember having dinner at home, then joining that large and happy family; but going first to Mass (as a tradition they used to go to the De La Salle chapel; the school Hector and Dad assisted from Kinder to graduating from High School.) After Mass, almost 2 a.m., we went back to their house for dinner. Their house was a big house with a large dinning room, facing a river. I remember a large dinner table that Abita very proud had set with her best china and crystal. We all sat down and enjoyed that special moment, knowing well will be the last Christmas celebrated in our country.
