1 package active dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
2-1/2 c all purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 c shortening
3/4 c buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
1. Combine yeast and water; let stand 5 minutes.
2. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients.
3. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until crumbly.
4. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk, stirring with a fork just until dry ingredients are moistened.
5. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly (10 to 15 ) times.
6. Roll or pat dough to 3/4" thickness; cut with a 2-1/2 cutter.
7. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 35 minutes or until doubled in bulk.
8. Bake at 400º for 12 to 14 minutes or golden brown.
