1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
red food coloring (optional)

Frosting:
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 cup butter
6 to 10 tbsp. milk
1 lb. powdered sugar
pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Bring shortening, margarine, water and cocoa to a boil. Remove from heat; add flour and sugar. Add baking soda, dissolved in buttermilk. Add eggs and vanilla. Pour into greased 9 x 13 in. pan. Bake at 400º F. in preheated oven for 20 minutes (or less).
While cake is cooking, mix frosting in same pan without washing:
Cook cocoa, butter, and milk until thick, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add powdered sugar and stir until smooth. Add nuts and spread onto cake.
