2 gal. pickles after cut into strips
1 pt. salt
1 gal. cold water
Set pickles in salt water brine for 1 week.
Then drain off. Pour boiling water over to cover pickles.
Let stand 24 hrs.
Drain again & pour boiling water over again
Add a lump of alum, size of a walnut.
Let stand 24 hrs. Drain

Boiling Process:
2 1/2 qt. vinegar
12 c. sugar
Scant handful of mixed pickling spice.
Boil and pour over pickles. Let stand 24 hrs.
Drain off vinegar & sugar. Bring it to a boil again.
Cover pickles while mixture is still hot. Let stand 24 hrs.
Note: If pickles are jarred, boil twice; if stored in a crock, boil 4 times.
