• 4 2/3 cups flour
• 4 Ŋ tsp. baking powder
• Ŋ tsp. salt
• 1 cup shortening
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 eggs, well beaten
• 4 egg yolks
• 2 tsp. vanilla

Part 2
• 5 squares chocolate, melted
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 6 Tbsp. sugar
• 1 Ŋ cups milk
• 4 Tbsp. shortening
• Ŋ tsp. salt
• Ŋ cup hot water

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cream shortening with sugar until fluffy. Combine egg and egg yolks, beat well, add to creamed mixture with vanilla and beat thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately in small amounts, beating well after each addition.

Combine ingredients in part 2 in order given. Blend thoroughly. Divide batter as follows; leave 1/3 of the batter white and to the other 2/3 add chocolate mixture. Blend well. Drop batter by spoonfuls into greased pan alternating white and chocolate batters. Bake at 350 ēC for 1 hour.
