Directions:I remember many days and nights spent at Aunt Merna and Uncle Ole's farm. There were always great fried chicken dinners around the kitchen table. After dinner, Uncle Ole would sit in his recliner and I would run as fast as I could between him and the gas stove trying not to get caught. If you got caught you got pinched. Once in awhile when he would catch me, he would tickle me instead of pinching me. I don't ever remember being tickled as hard or as long as Uncle Ole could tickle. More than once, I was sure that I was going to pee my pants I was laughing so hard. I could make a game of running from the kitchen to the living room, for what seemed like hours.
Many nights were spent sleeping upstairs at the farm. The stairs seemed so narrow and steep, even for my little (at the time) feet. At the top of the stairs was a big landing area where we would sleep on mattresses or sleeping bags. It was always so cold upstairs. We'd wake up in the morning with our noses half froze. I'm sure we could have seen our breathes if we would have uncovered our heads long enough. You never got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom - it was too cold - you learned to just hold it until morning!
Any days spent at the farm included riding horses, finding newborn kittens in the barn and laying on the grass at night looking up at the sky watching for shooting stars! Good times and great memories! |
