2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. lard or butter
1 tsp. soda
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
5 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. nutmeg, if desired
Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar, shortening, and eggs. Add soda, cream of tartar, vanilla & milk. Then add flour enough to make a soft dough. May not take all the flour. Use flour to roll them. The softer the dough, the better the cookies. Bake at 375º for approx. 10 minute.
