12 slices white bread
1 lb. of bacon or sausage
1/2 c. grated cheese
4 eggs
1 chopped onion
2.5 c. milk
1/4 t. salt
1 can cream of mushroom soup

Directions:
Directions:
Trim crust from bread. Lightly butter slices of bread. Place 6 slices of bread, buttered side up, in a greased 13x9 casserole pan. Crumble 1/2 of the bacon or sausage, onions and cheese. Add the other 6 slices of bread and cover with the remaining meat, onions an cheese.

Lightly beat together eggs, milk and salt. Pour over all the ingredients in the casserole. Push down until the milk oozes to the top. Spoon the soup over the top.

Cover and put in the refrigerator over night. Bake in a pre-heated oven for 40-45 minutes at 350º. Should be slightly browned. Let sit for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Our group at Church would prepare this for a Palm Sunday Brunch. This was one of the favorites, requested by everyone. We also substituted goetta for the sausage or bacon.
