Combine in saucepan:
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/3 c. red cinnamon candies
Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Pour into 12" x 8" x 2", reserving 1/2 c. for topping.

Prepare 3 c. peeled and diced apples and set aside.

Sift together:
2 c. flour
2 TSR. baking powder
1/2. tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
Cut in 1/3 c. Crisco

Break 1 egg into measuring cup and add enough milk to measure 2/3 cup. Beat with fork to combine. Add to dry ingredients and stir until dough clings together in a ball.

Knead 12 to 15 strokes. Roll out to 12" square. Spread with apples and roll as for a jelly roll. Cut into 8 -1 1/2 inches slices and place on syrup in pan.

Bake at 400 º for 30 minutes. Spoon remaining syrup over top and continue baking 10-15 minutes til golden brown.

Serve warm with plain or whipped cream.
