5-6 cups fruit of choice (peel and cut into bite size pieces if necessary)
3 cups milk
3 cups water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups uncooked steel cut oats
1/4 cup brown sugar, tightly packed
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces

Coat inside of slow cooker with cooking spray or use a liner (so important!). Add all the ingredients to slow cooker. Give everything a stir. Cover and turn on low. Cook for 8 hours. If you half the recipe, reduce cooking time to 6 to 7 hours. You may want to add raisins, walnuts, brown sugar, maple syrup or white table sugar just before serving. Whatever suits your tastes. Add whatever toppings you like or eat like it is.

You can easily half this recipe if you don't want to make as much. This freezes so well! If you choose to freeze, do so in single portions. Then pop in the microwave for a minute or so with a little milk.
