4 Cups Flour
4 teaspoons Salt
2 Cups Water

Mix well. Roll out thin. Cut in squares now or bake whole and break apart when cool. Poke dough all over with a nail. Bake at 375º for 30 minutes. Flip over and bake 30 more minutes.

This makes a hard cracker type bread that was a staple for Civil War soldiers and early pioneers. It's mentioned in the Little House on the Prairie books. It was dunked in coffee to soften, or just chewed on. It will keep a LONG time. We started making this when we studied the Oregon Trail in home school. Carlo loves this for some reason and Timmy was always making it.
