1 16 oz package yellow eyed beans
4 cups water
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 can tomato soup
1/2 lb bacon
5 tbsp molasses
5 tbsp brown sugar

Pick over beans and wash
Soak in water overnight
Next day drain
Bring 4 cups water and tsp sale to a boil in a large pot
Add beans
Simmer covered 1 1/2 to 2 hours
Keep and eye out that they do not boil over or boil dry
Some times it take 1 hour, sometimes 2
Do not drain.
There should be a small amount of liquid barely visible at the bottom
Remove from stove and mix in remaining ingredients (except for the bacon)
Place in a bean pot and layer bacon (sliced in half) over the top
Cook for 4 hours stirring only once or twice at 275º

If you don't have a bean pot use a casserole dish, but for some reason they taste better if cooked in a bean pot
Serve with buttermilk biscuits and molasses
