1 (1 pound) package confectioners' sugar
2 T butter, softened
2 tsp peppermint extract
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup evaporated milk
2 cups (12 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
2 T vegetable shortening

Directions:
Directions:
In a bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, butter, peppermint extract and vanilla. Add evaporated milk and mix well. Roll in 1-inch balls and place on waxed-paper-lined cookie sheet. Chill for 20 minutes.

Flatter peppermint balls into 1/4 inch thick patties with the bottom of a drinking glass. Chill for 30 minutes. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Dip patties in chocolate and place on wax paper to harden
