Sift together:
1 3/4 sifted cake flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar

add 1/2 cup shortening
2/3 c. milk
(beat for two minutes)

Add: 1/3 c. milk
1/3 to 1/2 c. eggs (unbeaten= 2 medium eggs)

add: 2 sq. melted chocolate
1 tsp. red coloring if desired
Beat two minutes

Pans: 2- 8 inch layers greased and floured

Temp: 350º

Bake 30-35 minutes for layers
