Ingredients:
1 lb. apples (two large granny smith)
2 Oz. sugar (or just over ¼ cup)
2 ½ Oz. margarine or butter (almost ¾ stick)
5 Oz. flour (1 cup)
Pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Peel apples, slice to medium thickness, and lay in a pie or small casserole dish. Sprinkle a little of the sugar over the fruit and add 2 tbsp water. In a separate bowl, work the butter very finely into the flour. Add the remaining sugar and a pinch of salt; mix well and sprinkle thickly over the surface of the fruit. Bake in oven at 400°F until the crust is golden brown and the fruit is tender – about 20 – 30 minutes. Top with hot vanilla pudding or custard.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
My mom immigrated to the United States when she married my dad, who was stationed at an Air Force base in England. She used to make this dessert for our family when I was a kid. Not only was it really yummy, but I felt it gave me a connection to my heritage as well. A true comfort food, through and through.
