1/4 flour
1/4 tbsp pepper
oil & water
1 101/2 oz can beef consomme
1/4tbsp bay leaf, if desired
1/4-1/2 c red dry wine
1/2 tbsp salt
1 1/2 lbs stew meat
2 carrots
small minced onions
pinch of savory
1/2 lbs mushrooms or 1 can
3 potatoes

Directions:
Directions:
Fry meat after rolling in flour. Add 1 c. water, consomme, onion, bay leaf, herb, and savory. Cover, simmer until beef is almost tender, then add potatoes and carrots. Add a little water if necessary. Cook till vegetables and meat are tender, mix the remainder of flour, salt and pepper, Mix with 2 tbsp water keeping smooth. Add to stew and stir constantly until gravy thickens. Add mushrooms and wine. Cover and cook gently for about 15 minutes. If gravy is thicker than you want add another 1/4 c. water and reheat.
