1 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. butter
1 cup milk
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 cup white sugar
Meringue:
3 egg whites, room temperature
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
6 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Directions:
Mix brown sugar, flour and salt in heavy saucepan. Add butter and milk. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Add slightly beaten egg yolks by adding a small amount of cooked mixture to yolks and then adding yolks to saucepan. Cook 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla and 1/2 cup sugar. Cool slightly and pour into a baked pie shell. Top with meringue and bake at 400º for 8-10 minutes. For Meringue: combine all ingredients and beat until the mixture creates stiff peaks.
