4 cups apples, peeled and chopped
1 cup pecans, chopped
2 cups sugar
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs, slightly beaten.

Combine apples, pecans and sugar; mix well. Let stand 1 hour, stirring often, do no drain.

Combine flour, soda, salt, and spices in a large bowl; add apple mixture, stirring well. Stir in butter, vanilla and eggs.

Spoon batter into 2 greased and floured 1-pound coffee cans. Tie a 2 inch band of foil around tops of cans. (these are hard to find now days so I use loaf pans).

Bake at 325 deg. for one hour and 15 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Let cool 10 minutes in pan before removing to wire racks to cool.
