2 sticks butter
1/2 cup shortening
4 T cocoa
1 cup water
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Icing:
1 stick butter
4 T cocoa
6 T buttermilk
1 lb. confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Melt first four ingredients in saucepan. Let it come to a boil. Remove from heat.
Add the flour and sugar, and mix well.
Mix the buttermilk and baking soda together. Add to the mixture along with the eggs and vanilla.
Pour into greased and floured pan. Cook at 400º for 20-25 minutes.
While the cake is cooking, prepare the icing:
Melt the first three ingredients over medium heat in a saucepan. (use the same saucepan used for the cake).
Add the confectioners sugar and vanilla. Add nuts if wanted.
Pour the icing over the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
