Crust:
Heat oven to 275º. Sift sugar and cream of tartar together. With electric mixer beat egg whites till stiff but not dry. Slowly add sugar mixture, beat till it forms glossy peaks. Spread over bottom and sides of glass pie plate. (Bottom 1/4" thick, sides thicker). Bake for a little less than one hour, or until light brown and crisp to touch. Cool away from drafts. Do not fret if meringue cracks and falls.

Filling:
Melt chocolate in double boiler, do not let water get too hot. While smooth, use electric hand mixer and add whole egg and yolks one at a time. Beat the egg whites separately till they form peaks. Fold in one cup whipped cream. Pour into shell and refrigerate till well chilled.
