Dry: 3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp. salt

Wet: 3/4 cup oil
2 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1 tsp.butter flavoring

2 cups cold water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In an ungreased 9 x 13 pan mix all dry ingredients with a fork until they are well blended.

Mix all wet ingredients (except water) in a measuring cup and whisk.

Make 3 wells in the dry ingredients and pour the oil/vinegar mixture in the wells. Pour 2 cups cold water over all, and blend thoroughly with a FORK. DO NOT BEAT.
Bake at 350º for 30-40 mins. (Toothpick test)
Cool and frost. Must be cool.

Frosting: In a saucepan, on low heat, melt 1 stick of butter/oleo. Remove from heat. Add: 1 tsp. vanilla, 3 T. cocoa, 2 T hot coffee, 1 cup chopped pecans, and 1 box of powdered Confectioner's sugar. Stir until blended. More coffee may be added if it is too dry, but add it a little at a time. Spread on cooled cake.

This recipe was handed down to my Mom from a very dear friend.
My Mom gave me the recipe and since both ladies are deceased I thought I would pass it on also.

Susan Noakes wed Aubrey Dean Horner on July 24, 1954. She was born on July 22, 1935 and passed away on March 15, 1996. She was a very loving, wife, mother, and grandmother.
