Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 cups of sugar
1 cup of water
1 can of evaporated milk (not condensed!)
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. almond extract
Ginger Ale (you can use Sprite or 7-up, but Ginger Ale is the best)
2-3 drops red food color

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan on low heat melt sugar and water until sugar is completely dissolved. Add your milk and extracts stirring well. Drop in your food color and stir. You are looking for a pretty pink. Let mixture cool and pour into a large jar. (We use an empty mayonnaise jar.) Chill in refrigerator. This mixture is a concentrate. You will only use a small amount when making a soda. When you feel like an old-time soda, get a tall glass and pour only about an inch in the bottom. Add ginger ale and ice. Stir well. Get a straw and be amazed!!

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
"This delicious and frothy drink is now a tradition in our family. I received it from my best friend in New Orleans, Maureen O'Dwyer, over 30 years ago. It was Maureen's maternal grandmother's recipe and their "Mere" made it for Maureen and her brothers and sisters when they were growing up. Maureen is also the "Fairy Godmother" to Richie III, Robert Carson, and Alexandra Grace. We have this creme soda every Easter (so pretty!) and for special times in the summer. You can also add vanilla ice cream. Guaranteed!!" (Melanie Horner Keyser)

Richie III, Robert Carson II, and Alexandra Grace are the great-grandchildren of Faye Boyd and Doyce P. Horner. Doyce is the son of Elie Silman (E.S. "Dick") Horner. Elie Silman was the son of Robert Carson Horner.
