2 packages (3 ounces each) lady fingers (hard to find in bakery section - are soft, oval cake-like cookies - may be frozen)
2 tablespoons amaretto liqueur
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract, divided
2 cups heavy cream, whipped
1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling

Lightly grease the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan. Brush the lady fingers with amaretto. Line the sides of the pan with half of the lady fingers, placing the rounded sides toward the outside of the pan.
Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add sugar and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract; beat 1 minute. Fold whipping cream into the cream cheese mixture in the bottom of the pan. Place remaining lady fingers over the mixture with rounded sides up. Top with remaining cream cheese mixture, spreading to smooth. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Combine cherry pie filling with 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving. To serve, remove springform and top dessert with cherry filling. Serve chilled.
Yield: 10 to 12 servings
