1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 egg's beaten
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
4 T. Hot water
5 c. Apples (peeled and diced)
1 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar, stir in egg's and vanilla. In separate bowl combine flour, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Stir 1/2 of the flour mixture into shortening mixture, beat in 2 T. HOT water, add remaining flour mixture add another 2 T. HOT water, beat after each addition. Fold in diced apples and nuts to mixture, place in 2 greased 9x9 baking pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes.
