1 c sugar
1/3 c sour cream
1 T white Karo syrup
pinch of salt
1 T butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 - 2 1/2 c walnut halves

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, sour cream, syrup and salt in a heavy sauce pan. Cook to soft ball stage (227º). Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Beat slightly. Add walnuts and beat until cool and thick. Turn out on wax paper or greased cookie sheet. Separate nuts.

As I grew up in California we had a few walnut trees and gleaned nuts from the commercial orchards after harvest. We dried them, shelled them and put them in the freezer so we always had great tasting walnuts. We often made these for Christmas.
