2 c (7 oz) slivered almonds
3 large egg whites, at room temperature
3/4 c sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
3 oz semisweet chocolate, finely ground

Directions:
Toast slivered almonds on baking sheet in an 350º oven for 5 minutes or until light brown. Cool. Beat egg whites* on low until foamy. Slowly increase speed and beat until soft peaks form. Add sugar by spoonfuls. Then add vanilla, cinnamon and cloves. Beat until thick. With a wire whip fold in chocolate and nuts. Drop one heaping teaspoon of batter with the help of a second spoon on a well-buttered cookie sheet. Leave 2 inches between each cookie. Bake in middle of a preheated, 350º oven for 15 minutes. Immediately remove the cookies with a spatula to a wire rack to cool.
*Bowl,beaters and whites must be completely fat free for this to work. Make sure no yolk gets in with the whites.
