Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs. butter
1 lb. chopped walnuts
1 lb. chopped pecans
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
2 lbs. frozen phyllo dough - thawed
Honey Syrup (recipe below)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine nuts and spices in large mixing bowl. Melt butter and use it to brush bottom of 14" x 20" pan (I used two 9" x 13" pans). Place pastry sheets, one at a time, along bottom of buttered pan. Add 6 layers of pastry to bottom for solid crust. On top of that, sprinkle nut mixture.

Top the mixture with pastry sheets, and brush them each with butter, repeating process until all ingredients are used and end with a layer of pastry sheets that are brushed with butter.

Cut the top layer into diamond shapes. Bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees, and then reduce heat to 350 degrees for final 30 minutes. While pastry is baking, make honey syrup.

Syrup:

4 cups sugar
2 cups water
1/2 to 1 cup honey
1 half lemon
2 cinnamon sticks

Add ingredients to a large pot, and stir occasionally over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat, take out cinnamon & lemon and pour syrup over golden brown baklava when it is pulled from oven. Allow baklava to soak up syrup as it cools.

Personal Notes:
The Greek Orthodox Church in Montgomery has a festival every year and we always go and get pastries. One of the gentlemen from the church put this recipe in the newspaper. It was a huge hit when I made it and was absolutely delicious.
