COMBINE 1 1/2 CUPS SUGAR
1 1/2 CUP WATER AND COOK 5 MIN.
POUR INTO GREASED RECTANGULAR BAKING PAN 9X13.

DOUGH: SIFT 3 CUPS FLOUR
3 TSP BAKING POWDER
1/2 TSP SALT
1/3 CUP SUGAR
ADD 1/2 CUP SHORTENING
1/CUP MILK

STIR LIGHTLY. KNEED ON FLOURED BOARD. ROLL INTO 12X12X1/3" . BRUSH WITH 3 TBSP MELTED BUTTER. SPREAD DOUGH WITH 3 CUPS RHUBARB AND ROLL AS JELLY ROLL. CUT INTO 1 1/2 " SLICES AND PLACE IN SYRUP IN PAN. BAKE AT 450 FOR 40 MIN

BASTE WHILE BAKING WITH 1 CUP RHUBARB, 1/2 CUP SUGAR, 2/3 CUP WATER, AND SEVERAL DROPS OF RED FOOD COLORING COOKED TOGETHER.
