1/2 c. Crisco
1c. dark brown sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
11/2 c. dark molasses
2/3 c. water
61/2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, soda, salt & spices until light and fluffy, beat in molasses. Stir in water gradually. Stir flour to make stiff dough. Shape in 2 balls and wrap in plastic wrap in refrig the day before. Roll out one ball at a time 1/8"-1/4" thick; cut; bake at 350º for 10min.

For icing - mix water with 2 c. powdered sugar and 1 tbsp. of cream of tartar until smooth; pipe cookies. For fun touch - write out recipients name on 6" cookie; package in cellophane bag and tie with fun holiday ribbon.
