1 large ham hock or ham bone with meat
2 cups dried green split peas
2 quarts water
1 cup celery, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Parsley
1 clove garlic

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse peas and put in large soup pot. Add water, ham hock and vegetables. Heat to boiling and simmer for 3 1/2-4 hours or until peas are soft. Remove ham hock or bone from soup; remove all meat and put aside.

Remove soup a cup at a time, and put in blender or food processor to puree. until most of the soup is smooth. Return ham pieces to soup and adjust seasonings. If too thick, add more water during cooking or before final heating.
