2 c. finely chopped walnuts, 1/2 c. bourbon, 3 1/2 c sifted flour, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 2 c. butter, 2 1/2 c. sugar, 8 eggs well beaten, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 c. bourbon.

Preheat oven to 350º and grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan. In a small bowl combine the walnuts, 1/2 c. bourbon and mix well. Let it stand. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and spices. In a large bowl of a mixer beat the butter with the sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time and then vanilla. Beat at high speed, occasionally scraping sides of bowl until thick and fluffy. At low speed, gradually beat in flour mixture just until combined Stir in bourbon walnut mixture. Turn batter into pan and bake 1 hour and 10 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. Cool in pan for 15 minutes and then turn out to cool completely.Soak a piece of cheesecloth in 1/2 c. bourbon and wrap cake in this. Let cake ripen a few days before serving. Place in a tin or wrap in heavy foil.
