1 c plus 2 T raisins (boiled)
1/2 c butter
1-1/2 c water
1-1/2 c flour
1 c sugar
1 tsp bp
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves

Directions:
Combine raisins, butter and 1 c water. Heat to boiling cover and reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Cool at room temp.

Beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy, beat in remaining 1/2 c water. Add sifted dry ingredients. Remove 2 T raisins to flat dish when cool, mash with fork and reserve. Add cooked and cooled raisin mixture to batter and stir to blend. Pour into well greased 9 x 9 pan and bake at 350º for 30 to 35 min or until it tests done.

In the pan was the raisins cooked in--no need to wash it--brown 3 T butter, watch closely. It should be light golden in color. Add the reserved mashed raisins and 1-1/2 c powdered sugar and enough water to make a soft spreading consistency. Leave cake in pan and frost while still warm.
