2 c flour
2 c quick cooking oats
1 1/2 c firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 c melted butter
Optional: add 1/4 c peanut butter and use less butter
12 oz pkg semi sweet chocolate chips
1 c chopped walnuts

5 Tbs flour
1 1/2 c caramel (ice cream) topping (1 jar)

Grease 13x9 pan, preheat oven to 350.

Make the day before serving. Mix together flour and caramel ice cream topping and set aside.

Mix together flour, oats, brown sugar, soda, salt and melted butter (and peanut butter if using). Press half of this mixture into 13x9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts, and pour caramel mixture over mixture in pan. Sprinkle with remaining (unbaked) flour mixture.

Bake 15 - 20 mins at 350 or until golden brown. Chill overnight. Cut into bars.
