1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
4 TBSP unsalted butter, melted
1 egg, beaten
2 ripe pears, cored, cut into 1/2" pieces (about 1 3/4 cups)

Preheat oven to 400F. Butter an 8x8 inch baking pan (or prepare muffin tins if making muffins instead). Combine first 5 ingredients in medium bowl. In separate bowl, mix milk, butter, and egg. Pour into flour mixture. Stir in pears (or apples work good, too!!). Transfer to pan. Sprinkle topping from Crumb Pudding recipe (page ---) over batter. Bake 30-35 minutes (about 15 minutes for muffins) until golden and dry on top. Cool completely in pan.
