Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 cups sour milk or buttermilk (to make sour milk add one tablespoon vinegar per cup of milk). 2 eggs, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 3 tablespoon melted lard or Crisco, 1 teaspoon soda, l teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoon baking powder, 2 teaspoon nutmeg. start with 2 cups of flour and add more to handle nicely. Put on floured surface and roll out 1/2 inch thick, use doughnut cutter to cut and deep fry until done. You will have to turn these a few times so they don't get too brown. Trial and error as to when these are done. The thicker you make them the longer it will take to get done in the middle. So make no more then 1/2 inch thick, they will rise very nicely. Put on paper towel and roll in sugar or frost with your favorite frosting.
