1 3/4 cups self-rising flour
6 Tbs unsalted butter
2 ripe bananas
1/3 cup superfine sugar
4 Tbs milk
1 egg, beaten
4 Tbs semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
Glossy Chocolate Sauce and whipped cream, to serve

Half fill a pan with water and bring it to the boil.
grease a 4cup heatproof bowl. Sift the flour into another bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Mash the bananas in a bowl. Stir them into the mixture, with the sugar. Whisk the milk with the egg in a separate bowl, then beat into the pudding mixture Stir in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared bowl, cover closely with a double thickness of foil, and steam for 2 hours, topping up the water as required during cooking.

Run a knife around the top of the pudding to loosen it, then turn it our on to a serving dish. Serve hot, with the chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
