Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 t. salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg yolk + enough milk to make 2/3 cup
1 cup crushed corn flakes
slices of apple
1 cup sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1 egg white
1 cup powdered sugar
1 T. water
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour, salt and shortening like pie crust. Combine egg yolk and enough milk to make 2/3 sup. Add to the flour mixture. Divide dough in half. Roll half to fit 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. Sprinkle crushed corn flakes over pastry, than arrange apple slices evenly over the corn flakes.

Mix together 1 cup sugar and 1 t. cinnamon. Sprinkle over the apple slices.

Roll out other half of the dough. Lay over top and pinch edges together. Beat egg white and spread over top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. While still warm, ice with the following icing: 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 T. water and 1 t. vanilla.

(Grandma Henthorn didn't put the egg white on top of the dough. She preferred the bars without. She also was generous using the apple slices.)
