6 T butter
3/4 C granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 1/4 C sifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 C chopped toasted almonds
2 T butter
1/3 C brown sugar
1 T water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C sifted powdered sugar
1/4 C chopped toasted almonds

In mixer bowl, cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Beat in egg and almond extract. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture; mix well. Stir in chopped almonds and spread in greased 9x9x2 inch baking pan. Bake 375º oven for 25 minutes. Cool slightly. In small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, and water. Bring to boil; remove from heat. Add vanilla; gradually stir in powdered sugar. Add few drops hot water, if needed, to make it to spreading consistency. Spread immediately on slightly cooled layer; sprinkle nuts evenly over frosting. Cut into 24 bars
