1/2 c shortening
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1 c molasses
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground ginger
2 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 c of hot brewed coffee
Directions:
Directions:
Sift together salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, flour and baking soda. Cream shortening and sugar together gradually adding molasses and eggs. Mix in sifted ingredients. Stir in hot coffee, batter will be thin. Bake at 350° F for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool. After cake cools lightly dust with powdered sugar or ice with your favorite cream cheese frosting.
